The Challenge

Progression Print and Design is a full service agency offering quality design, marketing, print and display solutions. With a dedicated print department which has 60 years experience collectively, Progression prides itself on being able to offer print and production solutions for any project.

To keep up with consumer demand for short run, digital printing, Progression had been trying to source a printer that would enable them to provide a ‘one stop shop’ printing solution to its customers in-house. They had considered some machines, but could not find one that produced consistent, high quality printing and so contacted Document Workflow Solutions (DWS) to see if we could help.

The Analysis

Progression had a high quality lithographic printing machine in-house which worked well for longer print runs. But, as this involves the need to have printing plates made for each project, it is not cost-effective for shorter runs. Progression also had a colour copier, but the quality was not good enough for client work. As a result Progression was having to outsource its short runs to a digital printing company, which meant providing this work to their customers at cost, with no profit margin.

The Findings

During the consultation process, DWS found that many of Progression’s customers included large, well known brands. One client in particular needed its documents to be printed on shorter runs, as the content changed regularly and Progression could not afford to have the brand identity of this prominent customer compromised. Progression also wanted to be able to meet the last minute print needs of its customers, which it was unable to do without first consulting with its external supplier.

The Solution

Document Workflow Solutions (DWS) provided some examples from its Xerox DocuColour range and Progression was astounded by the results that these digital printers could produce. Progression selected a printer which fully met its need for consistent, high colour, high speed printing at a costeffective price.

Other features include:

  1. The Xerox DocuColour printer has a Digital Imposer feature. This is where you import your PDF of the document you wish to print and the software will automatically work out for you how to incorporate as many of the items as possible into each sheet, as well as adding any necessary fold and cut marks. This point alone will save Progression’s Production Team a significant amount of time, as they will no longer have to work this out manually and produce a single image on the screen
  2. Progression can print different media types, for example, up to 300gsm card and enjoy a range of finishing options (i.e. making booklets), folding, hole punching and much more...
  3. Progression can print on demand, as and when its clients need them without the need to outsource
  4. They can print oversize A3, which means they can get much more on each sheet. Xerox also offer a single rate for A3 and A4 printing, which will provide significant cost savings for Progression
  5. Due to the Variable Data Printing feature of the DocuColour machines, Progression can incorporate a mail merge into the printing. This allows you to print a basic design but certain elements can change on each document
  6. Progression can also now enjoy the award winning support and maintenance services of Xerox, which has over 1,100 Engineers across the UK
